Regulations
Qualification

There will be six divisions in the competition, including Elementary School Division, Junior High School Division, High School Division, Vocational High School Division, Higher Education/ Society Division, and Educator Division.The Elementary School Division, Junior High School Division, High School Division, and Vocational High School Division are considered as the K12 Student Division.

Eligibility:

  1. Each participant is only allowed to join one team.They can team up cross-school, but the K12 teams cannot be formed cross-educational- stage (e.g. a high school student cannot participate in a junior high school team). If any participant is reported to be joining in a team that he or she is not supposed to, then the qualification will be canceled. Participants found to have entered multiple divisions will be disqualified.。
  2. Eligibility for the Educators Division: The K12 team instructors must be those who are currently working in schools, including formal teachers, substitute teachers and teacher trainees who are doing their internships (Teachers from cram schools are not included).
  3. If a participant is reported for plagiarism two years in a row, he or she will be permanently disqualified from participating in this competition.
  4. To ensure fairness, school uniforms, badges, or any other identifiable school-related items are not allowed in submissions. Teams that violate this rule will be penalized 2 minus points.

Incentives:

  1. To encourage science exploration, teams includes female, indigenous, second-generation immigrant, or students from remote or offshore islands of Taiwan (e.g., a team with a female, Indigenous student who came from a offshore island school in Taiwan will receive a 1.5-point bonus)
  2. Teams can earn an additional 0.5 point for each reference to a one of five national science museums in Taiwan. (Website URL or exhibition name are required to earn the bonus)
  3. The maximum total bonus points are 2 points.
  4. Schools (representatives, or Instructors) must declare special bonus items during registration in good faith. Any false or fabricated information will result in the forfeiture of awards and may lead to legal consequences.

Instructor Eligibility:

  1. For those who are going to participate in a K12 team, please note that the instructor will be the representative of the team and will thus being required to register on the competition’s website in order to register a team.
  2. A maximum of two instructors will be allowed for each team. If there are two in a team, then the main one have to fill in the relevant information for the other instructor when registering the team.
  3. The instructors for the College/ Society Teams are optional. The instructors must be those who are currently working in schools, including formal teachers, substitute part-time teachers and teacher trainees who are doing their internships ( Teachers from cram schools are not included)
  4. The instructors may represent multiple teams across every division (e.g., Teacher A who teaches at a certain junior high school is allowed to represent other teams from other elementary schools, senior high schools, and vocational high schools), and the Instructors are allowed to represent as many as they could.

Elementary School Division
  • Preliminary and final, two rounds.

  • Only students ages 9 to 12 (3rd to 6th grade in Taiwan; 4th to 6th grade in the US; year 5 to 7 in the UK) are allowed to participate
  • 9 to 10 years old students and 11 to 12 years old students must team up separately.
  • 5 pages of comics. (A4)
  • A Video within 3-5 mins.
  • The required forms of work completed.
2-4 1-2
Junior High School Division
  • Preliminary and final, Two rounds
  • 2-4 members per team.
  • Only students ages 12 to 15 (Junior high in Taiwan; 6th to 8th grade in the US; year 7 to 9 in the UK) are allowed to participate.
  • The team may be formed cross-school.
  • 6 pages reports.
  • A Video within 3-5 mins.
  • The required forms of work completed.
High School Division
  • Preliminary and final, Two rounds
  • 2-4 members per team.
  • Only students ages 15 to 18 (General High in Taiwan; 9th to 12th grade in the US; year 10 to 13 in the UK) are allowed to participate.
  • The team may be formed cross-school, if members included vocational high school students, they must be minority.
Vocational High School Division
  • New division since 2023.
  • Preliminary and final, Two rounds.
  • 2-4 members per team.
  • Only students ages 15 to 18 (General High in Taiwan; 9th to 12th grade in the US; year 10 to 13 in the UK) are allowed to participate.
  • The team may be formed cross-school, if members included general high school students, they must be minority.
Educator Division
  • Preliminary and final, Two rounds
  • 1-2 members per team.
  • The team may be formed cross-school, cross-educational- stage.
  • Official teachers, intern teachers, substitute teachers and teacher trainees are all allowed to participate.
  • 8 pages lesson plan.
  • Extra points for submitting a video within 3-5 mins.
  • The required forms of work completed.
1-2 Optional
Higher Education/ Society Division
  • Preliminary round will determine rankings.
  • College students, professionals, companies’ members, and other non-student members of sosiety may participate.
  • 1 member per team.
  • 500 to 1500 word article (may present with pictures or graphics).
  • Extra points for submitting a videoor aPodcast.
  • The required forms of work completed.
