Rules
Higher Education/ Society Division: Rules
  1. This competition has no regional restrictions. Participants from overseas countries outside Taiwan are welcome to register. Cross-school teams are allowed, and cross-national teams are also encouraged.
  2. Write a 500 to 1500-word popular science article, optionally including photos or images. Adding a video may earn extra points (up to 5 points).
  3. When preparing the report, download the competition report template (Word file), then convert the report to a PDF and upload it.
  4. Teams may update their reports during the submission period, and the final version will be used for evaluation.
  5. Participants must adhere to intellectual property laws and provide proper attribution for all referenced sources within their work. Any consequences resulting from the use of unauthorized references or violations of intellectual property rights will be the sole responsibility of the participants.
  6. Higher Education/ Society Division doesn’t hold final live presentation, the organizer will announce the winners before the awards ceremony and invite them to receive their awards in person.
  7. Works scoring above 80 points will receive a "Certificate of Selection" awarded in the name of the event.
  8. This division invites professionals from various fields to explain the science behind their skills through this competition in a popular science article, sharing the story of their profession.

Scoring
  1. Phase 1 - Preliminary Round:
    Judges review the submissions, provide feedbacks, and assign scores. The number of judges will depend on the number of submissions, and after peer reviews. The top 6 teams advance to the final round, where live presentations will be scored to determine Gold(1 team), Silver(2 teams), Bronze(3 teams). Teams ranked 7th-10th will be considered "Honorable mention", 11st-15th will be considered "Commendations" and are not required to present in the final but will attend the awards ceremony.
  2. The Final Round:
    Judges review the submissions, provide feedbacks, and assign scores. The number of judges will depend on the number of submissions, and after peer reviews, the top 10 teams will be selected. Judges will evaluate based on criteria set by the organizers shown in the following table

  • Correctness, comprehensivness, and creativity of scientific concepts.
  • Ability to use appropriate and clear photos, images, and charts to illustrate the exploration process and results.
  • Self-production rate of images and text.
  • References are sourced from reputable popular science websites.
  • If external information is cited, sources of images must be specified.
  • Charts should be reproduced when necessary.

  • Whether the work can be applied to other life scenarios.

5 Popular Science Promotability
  • Whether the work is suitable for promotion.
